ORLANDO - The state title will be on the line this weekend as UCF and 11 other schools from Florida begin play at the 2006 Ryder Florida Women's Collegiate Golf Championship at Don Shula's Golf Club in Miami Lakes. The teams will play 18 holes each day Friday through Sunday.
"We've been playing better and better each outing this spring," UCF coach Emilee Klein said. "We're coming off a great showing last week and I'm excited to see if we can continue the progress. We would like to pick up a win before the end of the season."
Ashley Grier is coming off her best tournament of the year. She placed third at the Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton, Fla. last week and earned Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week honors as a result.
Grier is one of three UCF golfers to finish in the top 10 at the Waterlefe Invitational. Holly Boot and Kristy McLaughlin finished seventh and ninth, respectively. UCF finished second in the event, matching its best outing of the year.
That trio will be joined this weekend by Jessica Trein and Annabel Silk. Both golfers will be making their second appearance of the spring.
Miami won last year's event and made it a clean sweep when the Hurricanes' Tina Miller took home medalist honors. UCF finished in sixth place last year, while Grier was the highest finisher for the Golden Knights, tying for 13th.
