ORLANDO, Fla. - Julie Snaman earned her second shutout of the season as UCF defeated Rice, 3-0. The Golden Knights improved to 10-9 on the season and 7-1 in Conference USA, while the Owls fell to 9-6-1 and 5-2-1 in C-USA.

"Erin (Hopkins) and Hanna (Wilde) both had their first goals of the season," said head coach Amanda Cromwell. "Two rookies coming up with goals was huge. We got a nice early goal from the combination of Roberta (Pelarigo) and Jennifer (Montgomery). It is good to see them clicking and playing off each other as well as they are."

Less than 10 minutes into the match, Roberta Pelarigo took a backwards kick to net the first goal of the match. Jennifer Montgomery picked up the assist on the play.

Erin Hopkins netted her first goal of the season in the 42nd minute of the match on a Jessalyn Withers throw in.

At the end of the first half, UCF was up, 2-0. The Golden Knights had taken eight shots to the Owls six, while Rice had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Hanna Wilde took a pass from Montgomery in front of the net to give UCF a 3-0 lead with 35 minutes to play in regulation.

At the end of the game, UCF held a 14-13 advantage in shots, while Rice led in corner kicks (6-1).

Snaman recorded four saves in the 90 minutes, while her counterpart, Adriene Giese allowed three goals with three saves.

Wilde led the Golden Knights in shots with five with Pelarigo second with three.

The Golden Knights return to action on Sunday when the team hosts Houston for the final home match of the 2005 season. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
