Women's Soccer Takes to the Road

ORLANDO, Fla.-The UCF women's soccer team (7-9, 4-1 C-USA) travels to Memphis, Tenn. to take on the Memphis Tigers (10-4, 4-1 C-USA) Friday night at 8 p.m. and then heads to Birmingham, Ala. to play UAB (7-6-1, 3-1-1) Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UCF
The Golden Knights lost to Miami, 2-1, in overtime Tuesday in Orlando. Roberta Pelarigo scored her team leading ninth goal of the season in the 17th minute of the match. Courtney Baines was credited with the assist. With just over two minutes left in the half, Rebecca Tweneboah knotted the game at one apiece on a pass from Val Blanco. The two teams sent the game into overtime where Tweneboah netted her second goal of the night. UCF was led by Pelarigo who had six shots, while Lydia Jones and Hanna Wilde were second with two shots each.

TEAM LEADERS FOR UCF
Roberta Pelarigo leads the team in points with 21 (9 goals, 3 assists), while Jennifer Montgomery is second with nine points (3 goals, 3 assists). Pelarigo also paces the offense with 80 shots. Beth Harless has started eight contests in goal for the Golden Knights, while Jennifer Manis has made five starts and Julie Snaman has made three. Harless has allowed seven goals with 23 saves, two shutouts and a 0.96 goals-against-average, while Manis has allowed eight goals with 10 saves and a 1.50 GAA.

UP NEXT FOR UCF
The Golden Knights return to Orlando for the final home series of the 2005 season. The squad plays Rice Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. followed by Houston Sunday at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT FOR MEMPHIS
The Tigers defeated East Carolina, 2-1, in overtime Wednesday afternoon in Greenville, N.C. East Carolina struck first in the 58th minute of action when Tara Shaw netted a cross from Sarah Biggar. With less than a minute to play in regulation, Memphis' Candace Halvorson headed a Shoko Mikami corner past the goalkeeper to tie the game at one a piece. Three minutes into the overtime period, Shoko gave the Tigers the 2-1 victory when Asuka Kubota passed the ball to her for the goal. The Pirates outshot the Tigers, 13-8, while Memphis held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

TEAM LEADERS FOR MEMPHIS
Leading the way for Memphis is Shoko Mikami who has 33 points (14 goals, 5 assists). Mikami also paces the team in shots with 33. Isabel Briones has played in the net for 13 matches for the Tigers, allowing 13 goals with 62 saves and a 0.98 GAA.

SERIES NOTE
This will be the first time that UCF and Memphis have met on the turf.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UAB
The Blazers lost to Memphis, 1-0, on Oct. 14 in Memphis, Tenn. Memphis' Melissa Savage netted the lone goal in the 82nd minute of action. Shoko Mikami and Asuka Kubota picked up the assists on the goal. UAB had 16 shots with nine shots on goal, while goalkeeper Katie Forbis had seven saves.

TEAM LEADERS FOR UAB
Leading the way for UAB is Sally Palmer who has 21 points (9 goals, 3 assists), while Jill Porto paces the team in shots with 36. Katie Forbis has played 13 matches in the net for the Blazers, allowing 19 goals with 96 saves and a 1.59 GAA.

SERIES NOTE
This will be the second meeting between UCF and UAB on the turf. The Golden Knights and Blazers fought to a 1-1 double overtime tie in 2004 in Birmingham, Ala. Kendra Flock scored UCF's lone goal in the 21st minute of action only to have Laura Richards tie it up 10 minutes later. Julie Snaman had eight saves in the net for the Golden Knights, while her counterpart Katie Forbis had four.
