SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior Michelle DeCespedes knocked in her first two goals as a Golden Knight as the No. 28 UCF women's soccer team defeated UC Santa Barbara, 4-0.

DeCespedes scored her first goal at the 26:14 mark on a rebound. UCSB's goalkeeper Jamie Considine fumbled with the ball in front of the net when DeCespedes booted it in, giving UCF the 1-0 lead.

Later in the first half, freshman Lydia Jones made it 2-0 for the Golden Knights. Junior Jessalyn Withers passed the ball to Jones who used a slide kick to put it behind Considine.

At the end of the first half, UCF had out-shot UCSB, 11-1.

Sophomore Jessica Newport recorded her first career goal at UCF in the 63rd minute of the match. Junior Kristin Bilby sent a shot toward the goal which ricocheted off the crossbar and Newport headed in for the score. Ten minutes later, DeCespedes scored her second goal of the match on a free kick.

At the end of the 90 minutes, UCF was up, 4-0, over UCSB. The Golden Knights' sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Manis had two saves on the afternoon, while Considine had five for the Gauchos.

"A lot of the newcomers are really stepping up scoring goals and getting the assists," said head coach Amanda Cromwell. "Michelle had a big day today with the two goals and Jessica and Lydia adding a goal each. Roberta (Pelarigo) had the goal for us Friday night and then a shot tonight setting up one of Michelle's goals."

UCF returns to the field on Saturday, Sept. 3 when the team makes its home debut, hosting Ole Miss on day one of the UCF Invitational at 7 p.m.
