Football Practice Report No. 13

Aug. 18, 2005

ORLANDO - The UCF football team practiced for roughly 90 minutes in helmets and shorts Thursday evening under cool conditions inside the Nicholson Fieldhouse. Heavy rain and lightning forced Thursday's practice indoors.

Senior defensive end Paul Carrington was at practice Thursday. Carrington was airlifted from Wednesday's scrimmage after sustaining a neck injury. The Georgia native stated he will be revaluated by doctors in a week and could then be cleared to practice. "I just want to let the UCF fans know that No. 95 is going to be on the field this season," said Carrington.

"Paul was released at 2:30 from the hospital last night and the prognosis is very good," added UCF head coach George O'Leary. "I don't expect him (Paul) to miss the South Carolina game."

During Thursday's practice, sophomore quarterback Kyle Israel had a strong workout and spent most of the night working with the second team offense. Israel hit junior tight end Sinclair Brown on a long touchdown pass over the middle during the half-line skeleton period and was sharp on all of his throws.

Junior quarterback Steven Moffett was also efficient, completing all of his passes in the skeleton period except for one dropped ball. Moffett hit freshman wide receiver Rocky Ross on several completions along with a long completion to senior wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Junior cornerback Travonti Johnson continued his stellar play this preseason with an interception return for a touchdown during the skeleton period. Johnson stepped in front of an Ed Marynowitz pass and went untouched into the end zone from 25 yards out.

The Golden Knights return to the practice field Friday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in full pads.
