Robert Malone III joined the Knights as a Volunteer Assistant Coach in 2020.
Malone, the husband of UCF Softball Head Coach Cindy Ball-Malone, helped the Knights to achieve new heights in his first season with the program as UCF posted a 21-5-1 record following the COVID-19 shortened season. The Knights were tabbed as high as No. 22 in the ESPN/USA Softball and NFCA/USA Today Top 25 Polls and, in the first release of the NCAA RPI, UCF checked in at No. 7 overall.
Malone came to UCF from Northwest Nazarene University, where he was the Assistant Coach for two and a half years. Malone has coached various girls’ fast pitch travel ball teams at the 18U and 14U levels in Boise, Idaho and was also the Volunteer Assistant Coach at Boise State University during the 2014-2015 season.
Growing up, Malone was an all-around athlete, playing football, soccer and baseball as a child. In high school Malone continued his athletic career playing volleyball and running track at Simi Valley High School. Malone played slow pitch softball for over 15 years and played tournament softball. He played in World and National slow pitch tournaments twice.
Malone currently lives in Oviedo, Fla. with wife, Cindy Ball-Malone. Together they have three children and a dog named Maddux.
