Brandon Washington joined the UCF track and field and cross country program as a volunteer assistant coach in fall 2012.
A UCF graduate student, Washington came to Orlando following a successful career as a jumper and hurdler for the California State-Bakersfield track and field team. He was named second-team all-conference in 2012, helping the 4x100 relay to a second-place finish at the Great West Conference championships. The former team captain appears on CSUB[apos]s all-time top 20 list for the 400 hurdles.
He was just as accomplished in the classroom as a three-year member of the Dean[apos]s List. He was inducted into the Pi Sigma Alpha political science national honors society. He was elected as CSUB[apos]s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president in 2011-12 and organized 3,500 hours of community service. He established the annual Roadrunner holiday toy drive and served as a student-athlete mentor from 2010-12.
Washington is a former club coach for the young achiever[apos]s sprint club (2007-08), Gainesville striders track club (2008-2011) and speed city athletics (2011). He has earned USATF level one and USATF level two sprint/hurdles/relays certification.
A native of Sanford, Fla., Washington earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in political science with a minor in physical education and kinesiology from CSUB in 2012. He is currently pursuing a master[apos]s degree in public administration.
