Paul Nagy joined the Golden Knight men[apos]s soccer staff in 2005 as an assistant coach after serving as a volunteer coach at Saint Louis, TCU and LeMoyne. In his first two seasons with the Knights, his main responsibility lay in the training of the UCF goalkeepers. In the spring of 2006, Nagy became head coach Bryan Cunningham[apos]s first assistant and the team[apos]s recruiting coordinator. He also assists with practices and administrative duties.
[quote]Paul has played an essential role in the development of our goalkeepers and the UCF team as whole during his previous two seasons,[quote] said Cunningham. [quote]I feel confident that he can continue to contribute to the team[apos]s growth on the conference, regional and national level.[quote]
During 2006, Nagy guided goalkeepers Brian Pope and Marcus Rein as the duo ended the season with a combined five shutouts and a 1.42 goals-against-average against Conference USA rivals.
In his first season with UCF, Nagy mentored Ryan McIntosh, who finished the season ranked first in saves and second in save percentage in Conference USA. McIntosh was then signed to a developmental contract with D.C. United of Major League Soccer in the spring of 2006.
Nagy himself enjoyed tremendous success as a goalkeeper throughout his playing career. The 1997 Texas High School State Player of the Year, he went on to Saint Louis University, where he helped the Billikens win four Conference USA Championships and advanced to the semifinals of the 1997 NCAA Tournament. Posting eight shutouts and a 1.06 goals-against-average, he received All-Conference USA recognition as a senior and finished his career with 12 shutouts and a 1.07 GAA.
After graduation, Nagy entered into a professional contract with the Hershey Wildcats of the A-League. In 2003-04, he trained with Major League Soccer[apos]s Dallas Burn before playing for the Syracuse Salty Dogs, where he was named 2003 Defensive MVP and 2004 Fan Favorite.
In addition to his duties at UCF, Nagy also currently serves as goalkeeper coach for Central Florida United Soccer Club.
Nagy graduated cum laude from Saint Louis in 2002 with a bachelor[apos]s degree in studio art.
