ORLANDO – After quarterbacking the highest-ranked win in UCF football history, Keyone Jenkins has earned a pair of national honors Tuesday afternoon as he was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week.
The true senior earned a trio of honors Monday after lifting UCF to a 39-31 victory in double overtime over No. 2 BYU on Saturday. He was named Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, a Manning Star of the Week and to the Davey O’Brien Great 8, the latter of which propelled him to the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week Award.
Jenkins passed for a season-high 293 yards in the victory over the Cougars and was responsible for four touchdowns, throwing for three while rushing for another. The Opa-Locka, Fla. native added 35 yards rushing. Known as “Lyghtz Out,” Jenkins shone bright in overtime, completing three of his five pass attempts for two touchdowns and added a passing two-point conversion to lift UCF 39-31. The first overtime saw a one-play strike to Josh Derry as UCF tied BYU at 31-31. After a roughing the kicker call gave UCF a second chance in the second overtime, Jenkins found Grayson Brousseau for a four-yard touchdown pass. He later found Tyren Hornes on the two-point conversion try.
The four touchdowns gives Jenkins 70 for his career. He’s compiled 11 passing touchdowns and four rushing scores for the Knights this season, passing for 1,099 yards and rushing for 76.
Jenkins leads the Big 12 in completion percentage since Week 4, as his 19-for-20 passing performance in the win over TCU has led to a 70.3% completion rate since UCF’s start to conference play.
