Trio of Knights Move onto Saturday’s Quarterfinals at NCAA East Preliminaries

LEXINGTON, Ky. — UCF track and field opened the NCAA East Preliminary rounds in impressive fashion Thursday evening, with three Knights earning automatic qualifying spots to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals in their respective events. 

Toni Galloway - 100m Hurdles
Competing in the fourth heat of the event, Galloway secured her big Q with a 13.13-second mark to finish third in her heat and 17th overall to move on to the event quarterfinals. Galloway will be back in action Saturday at 6:15 PM.

Jazmen Newberry - 400m
Newberry continued her standout senior campaign in the 400m, posting a time of 51.40 to win her heat and finish 12th overall, earning an automatic berth to Saturday’s quarterfinals. She is set to return to the track Saturday at 6:50 PM.

Genelle Stephens - 400m Hurdles
Stephens secured her spot in Saturday’s 400m hurdles quarterfinals after clocking a 57.98, finishing third in her heat and 21st overall to earn an automatic qualification. She will return to the track Saturday at 7:25 PM.

Additionally, Angelina Horn and the Knights’ relay teams will begin competition on Saturday. The 4x100m relay group will kick off action for the squad on Saturday with Aaliyah Gipson, Janiah Pulliam, Datavia Hunter and Ese Awusa representing the Black and Gold for the event. As the lone representative of the Knights field squad in Lexington, Horn is set to commence action in the triple jump at 6:30 PM. The 4x400m relay will close Saturday’s competition, with Deja Shaw-Huckaby, Jazmen Newberry, Janiah Pulliam and Twaniese Johnson as the racing quartet.
