ORLANDO – After wrapping up a perfect home slate over the weekend, UCF women’s tennis has moved up to No. 18 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, as announced on Tuesday morning.

The Knights are now part of a three-way tie for first place in the conference title race, as No. 20 TCU, No. 11 Arizona State, and the Black and Gold each hold 9-2 records in Big 12 play.

After Oklahoma State forfeited its Sunday, April 5, match against the Knights, Friday’s matchup with Kansas State served as the team’s home finale. The Knights wasted no time sending their seniors out with a bang, defeating the Wildcats 4-1.

The Knights set the tone early, claiming the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.  Jade Psonka and Vladislava Andreevskaya were the first to strike, earning a commanding 6-2 result on court three to give the Knights an edge. The tandem of Olivia Bergler and Lauren Seye decided it, though, holding steady on court two for a 6-4 victory.

In singles play, UCF quickly took control, with Marina Gatell wasting no time putting the Knights up 2-0 with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win on court three. The Wildcats continued to fight back, holding an edge on the top courts, but their efforts were soon stifled as Seye’s 6-3, 6-4 decision on court six inched the Knights closer to victory.

Though the Wildcats claimed their lone point after Andreevskaya retired due to injury, it proved inconsequential. Psonka delivered the clincher with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court five, sealing the team win, securing a perfect home record for the Knights, and capping a memorable Senior Night.

The Knights victory secured their second consecutive undefeated season at the USTA National Campus. Since head coach Bryan Koniecko took the reins ahead of the 2016-17 season, UCF has enjoyed remarkable success at home, compiling a 103-24 record.

LOOKING AHEAD
The squad will wrap up the regular season on the road, heading to Cincinnati on Friday, April 10, to take on the Bearcats at 1 PM EST. Two days later, they will be in West Virginia, closing out conference play against the Mountaineers, with a 10 AM match.
