Fulks Earns All-Big 12 Honors

by Jenna VanHoose

ORLANDO – After etching his name into the UCF record books, Themus Fulks has been named to the All-Big 12 Third Team and All-Newcomer Team, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Fulks has been instrumental for the Knights this season at point guard, directing the Black and Gold’s offense throughout the year. Through 30 games, he is averaging 14.4 points per game and leads the team with 6.8 assists per contest. This season, Fulks was tabbed to the Big 12 Starting Five three times and currently ranks third among active Division I players with 780 career assists.

The Winston-Salem native has totaled 205 assists this season, shattering the program’s single-season record of 183 set by Sinua Phillips in 1991-92.

Fulks has also achieved several additional milestones this season. He became the first Knight to record five double-digit assist games in a single season, the first UCF player this century to post four point-assist double-doubles in a season, and the first player in program history to record back-to-back games with at least 10 assists.

Fulks delivered a career performance against No. 1 Arizona on Jan. 17, scoring a career-high 30 points while leading the Knights with eight assists and adding five rebounds. His performance made him just the fourth Division I player in the last 30 years to record at least 30 points, five rebounds and five assists against a No. 1 opponent, joining Boston College’s Ky Bowman, Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield and Clemson’s Greg Buckner. He also became the first Knight to reach the 30-point mark this season.

Earlier in the year against Quinnipiac, the fifth-year guard dished out a career-high 13 assists, the most by a UCF player in more than a decade. The last Knight to reach that mark was Brandon Goodwin, who recorded 13 assists at Tulane on Feb. 19, 2015. Fulks finished just one assist shy of tying the program’s single-game record of 14, held by Kingsley Edwards and Cory Perry.

Fulks and the Knights now turn their attention to the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, where they will play Wednesday, March 11 at 3 p.m. against either Utah or Cincinnati.
