ORLANDO – The No. 25 UCF women’s tennis team heads west for a pair of matchups this weekend. The Knights begin Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m. EST against No. 73 Arizona at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson, before traveling to Tempe for a top-25 showdown with No. 12 Arizona State at the Whiteman Tennis Center at 3 PM EST.

LAST TIME OUT
The Black and Gold opened Big 12 play with dominance, defeating BYU 4-1, before sweeping Utah, 4-0.

On Friday, the Knights faced No. 29 BYU and captured the doubles point behind strong play from Jantje Tilbuerger and Marina Gatell (6-3), followed by the No.61-ranked duo of Olivia Bergler and Lauren Seye, who secured the doubles point for the squad with a 6-3 finish. In singles action, freshman Seye set the tone with a 6-1, 6-0 victory before Jade Psonka followed suit, adding another point with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court six. The Cougars fought back, picking up their lone singles point, but UCF stayed composed as Tilburger sealed the match with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) finish.

Carrying the victory momentum into Sunday, UCF swept the No. 35 Utes. The Knights jumped ahead early with a 6-0 doubles win from Psonka and Vladislava Andreevskaya, while Tilbuerger and Gatell clinched the doubles point for the squad (6-1). In singles play, Seye once again struck first with a 6-1,6-0 victory, followed by sophomore Psonka’s 6-4, 6-0 finish. Needing one more point to close it out, captain Tilbuerger delivered with a 7-6, 6-0 win, capping a dominant conference-opening weekend for the Black and Gold.

QUICK HITS

  • Facing their first Big 12 road test of the season, head coach Bryan Koniecko and his squad will look to maintain their success away from home. The Knights dropped just one road contest in Big 12 play last season, a loss to eventual conference co-champion Texas Tech. Since joining the conference ahead of the 2023-24 season, UCF has lost only two regular-season road matches.
  • The Knights reentered the top 25 this week, ranking No. 25 in the March 3 ITA Poll. Although their streak among the nation’s top teams was briefly interrupted, dropping to No. 39 in the Feb. 19 poll, the Knights had previously appeared in the top 25 for 17 consecutive ITA polls.
  • The squad went a perfect 6-0 against in-state opponents during non-conference play, marking the best in-state record of any program this season and the strongest in-state showing of the Koniecko era.
  • Senior captain Jantje Tilbuerger has been a cornerstone of the Knights’ early-season success. She holds an impressive 8-1 dual-match record and clinched victories in both of the Knights’ first two Big 12 matches. Tilbuerger has now won five consecutive matches.
  • Jade Psonka has been a rock for the Black and Gold on court six, heading into the weekend with a six-match win streak. She currently holds an 8-1 record in dual match play.
