ORLANDO – Andrew Williamson went 4-for-5 with a grand slam, and the UCF offense produced 12 runs on a season-high 17 hits en route to recording a 12-5 midweek victory over FGCU on Wednesday night at John Euliano Park.
The Knights improved to 6-5 on the season with the victory, while Eagles dropped to 10-3 with the setback.
“Willy (Andrew Williamson) and DeAmez (Ross) have been working really hard the last couple of days trying to figure some things out. They dove into some mechanical stuff and some approach stuff. It’s really nice to see the two of them, especially Willy, to one make the adjustment and two take it into the game,” head UCF coach Rich Wallace said. He got things started off with a couple of backside swings where he stayed on the ball. And finished it off by pulling a slider out of the ballpark.”
Ahead 2-1 after the first inning, DeAmez Ross and Zak Skinner drove in runs via sacrifice flies in the second to make it 4-1. The Eagles got a run back in the third, but back countered UCF with a run in the fourth on an RBI single from Williamson to make it 5-2.
With FGCU trying to get back in the game after making it a 5-3 score in the top of the fifth, Ross tripled to leadoff the sixth and John Smith III drove him home with an RBI single to make it 6-3.
The Eagles then looking to put together a rally in the top of the seventh after making it 6-4 and having the tying runners in scoring position. But UCF went to Evan Jones and the Knight reliever retired the first three batters he faced to strand the runners and preserve the lead.
With the momentum back in UCF’s favor, the Black and Gold offense then erupted for six runs in the last of the seventh to put the game away. Landon Moran and Austin Jacobs started the scoring in the frame with back-to-back RBI singles and Williamson followed by belting out a grand slam to deep right field to make it 12-4. The grand slam marked the first of the Williamson’s collegiate career and traveled 359 feet and exited the park at 103 MPH off his bat.

After a scoreless eighth, the Eagles picked up a run in the top of the ninth, but UCF reliever Michael Gillen entered and retired the first batter he faced to end the ballgame.
Camden Wicker started on the mound and allowed just two runs on three hits while striking out four over 4.1 innings. Redshirt freshman Anthony Lariz then came on and tossed an inning and a third of scoreless relief to earn his first collegiate victory. Jones later tossed a pair of scoreless frames, as UCF used a total of six pitchers in the game.
Offensively, six different Knights tallied multiple hits. Williamson finished 4-for-5 with a career-high five runs batted in. He doubled twice, scored two runs and finished his night with the grand slam. He finished a triple shy of the cycle. Moran and Jacobs were next by each tallying three hits, an RBI and two runs score while Ross and Skinner both had two hits apiece and drove in at least one run.
The contest marked the fourth game of a current 12-game homestand for UCF.
