ORLANDO – For the first time since the 2024 season, the UCF track and field team appeared in the USTFCCA’s first outdoor ranking, checking in at No. 16 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Knights are one of six Big 12 teams ranked in the nation’s top 25, joining Texas Tech (2), Baylor (12), BYU (14), Kansas State (15), and West Virginia (19). That total trails only the SEC, which leads with seven ranked teams, as the two conferences dominate the opening rankings. The Knights also sit third in the South region.

The Knights opened their outdoor season with back-to-back home meets at the Track and Field Complex, racking up multiple event wins and personal bests. Jazmen Newberry led the charge with personal bests in both the 400m and 200m, in the Knights second home meet, the Knights Invite.

The senior won the 400m with a mark of 52.89 and finished runner-up in the 200m with a 22.81. Newberry’s 22.81 time ranks fifth all-time in UCF history and moves her to No. 3 nationally and No. 1 in the Big 12 in the event. She also tops the Big 12 in the 400m, where her time ranks fifth all-time as well.

Toni Galloway also had a dominant showing for the sprints squad at the Knights Invite, earning new personal records in the 200m (24.08s) and 100m hurdles (13.05s). Her time in the 100m hurdles is also good for sixth in the UCF record books.

A strong showing from the jumps and multis squad highlighted the Knights’ first home meet, the UCF Black and Gold Challenge. In her outdoor debut, Lilou Lapeyrie cleared 1.75 meters to finish second, matching former Knight Natalia Madison for fifth all-time in program history. Meanwhile, in the triple jump, senior Angelina Horn posted a personal-best 12.54 meters to secure the win and cap an excellent opener. Her mark ties for ninth all-time in UCF history.

Paige Laffoon opened the first day of the meet with a 10th‑place finish in the javelin, landing her first throw at 32.90 meters (107’11’’), just shy of her personal best. Shortly after, she secured a personal-best long jump distance, reaching 5.87 meters, a jump that advanced her to the final, where she ultimately placed eighth.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Knights will be back in action this weekend, heading to Gainesville for the Florida Relays on April 3-4.
