FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU evened the Big 12 baseball series between the Knights and Horned Frogs with a 6-0 victory on Saturday evening at Lupton Stadium.
TCU’s Lance Davis and Walter Quinn combined for a three-hit shutout on the night.
The setback marked UCF’s (14-7, 4-1 Big 12) first in Big 12 play and snapped a five-game winning streak for the Knights. TCU improved to 13-9 overall and 2-3 in league play with the win. The rubber match for the series will come on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
The Horned Frogs struck first with a run in the bottom of the first and added an unearned run in the second to jump out to a 2-0 lead. TCU looked for more with a one-out double in the fourth inning, but Andrew Williamson mowed down the runner trying to advance on a flyout for an inning-ending F-9-5 double play.

The Frogs then loaded the bases in the fifth and scored three runs to make it 5-0. Lucas Franco had the big hit with a two-run single. Freshman Max Murray then entered for the Knights in relief and limited the damage by drawing an inning-ending groundout to strand a pair of runners in scoring position.
Murray retired TCU in order in the sixth thanks to an inning-ending diving catch in right field from the captain Williamson. But the Horned Frogs responded with a run in the last of the seventh on a safety squeeze to extend their lead to 6-0.
The Black and Gold threatened in the top of the eighth, as DeAmez Ross singled and Jordan Lodise drew a one-out walk. But TCU reliever Walter Quinn got out of it with a strikeout and a groundout to keep the Knights off the board. Quinn then completed the shutout by retiring three of the four batters he faced in the ninth.
TCU starter Davis tossed 7.0 shutout frames to earn his first win of the season (1-3). Davis allowed just two hits while striking out five and walking two. Quinn then tossed the final two innings of scoreless relief in which he gave up just one hit while striking out three and walking two. UCF starter Matt Sauser was tagged with his first loss of the season to drop to 2-1 on the year.
Javier Crespo, Williamson and Ross led the way offensively for the Black and Gold with a hit apiece. Franco paced TCU by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Despite the setback, the Knights have still won five of their last six games as well as 10 of their last 12.
