No. 19 Women's Tennis Picks Up Big 12 Road Sweep Against Iowa State

by Franki Noble

AMES, Iowa – The No. 19 women’s tennis team embarked on its third conference road match of the dual-match season and rolled past the Iowa State Cyclones on Friday evening in Ames.

The Knights quickly secured the doubles point with two wins just minutes apart, then carried that momentum into singles play with three straight victories from the middle courts. With the result, the Black and Gold improve to 13-2 overall and 5-1 in conference action.

UCF stuck with its usual doubles pairings, and the decision paid off immediately. Lauren Seye and Jade Psonka were the first to strike, defeating their Cyclone counterparts 6-4 on court two.

Battles unfolded on courts one and three, but it was the freshman–senior duo of Jantje Tilbuerger and Marina Gatell that ultimately clinched the doubles point, sending the Knights into singles with the advantage.

Tilbuerger kept her foot on the gas in singles, delivering the first singles win of the night on court two in dominant fashion. The Germany native carried her doubles momentum straight into a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Iowa State’s Ashlee Narker.

Two courts over, Vladislava Andreevskaya followed suit, earning her first win of the day on court four with a 6-3, 6-4 result against Cyclone Julia Camblor.

With a sweep looming, Gatell sealed the match on court three with another commanding performance, taking down Stanisla Shulzhenko 6-3, 6-4.

The remaining courts went unfinished, though only one Knight trailed. Bergler was halted at 6-2, 5-5, while Psonka was just moments away from closing out a win of her own at 7(7)-6(3), 5-1.
