Bergler Earns Big 12 Player of the Week Nod

by Aiden Kocol

ORLANDO – After delivering a flawless weekend at the top of UCF’s lineup, Olivia Bergler has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

The recognition marks a first for Bergler, who is the second Knight to earn the honor this season, joining Jantje Tilbuerger, who earned the Feb. 17 Player of the Week Award.

Sophomore Bergler delivered a dominant weekend at the top of the lineup, leading her team to two ranked victories while remaining undefeated in singles play. Competing at the No. 1 position, Bergler anchored the team’s success against No. 51 Colorado and No. 30 Texas Tech.

On Friday against Colorado, Bergler set the tone early with an impressive 6-0, 6-4 victory over Aya El Sayed at No. 1 singles. She controlled the match from the outset, opening with a flawless first set and maintaining momentum in the second to secure the straight-set win. The win marked her first conference victory on court one. After the weekend, she holds a 2-3 record and 3-4 record overall in the dual-match season.

Bergler also contributed in doubles play, teaming with Lauren Seye at the No. 2 position to earn a 6-3 doubles victory, helping the team establish early momentum in the match. Seye and Bergler have been the staple duo for the Knights early this season, boasting a 7-2 record together primarily on court two. The duo has climbed as high as No. 50 in the national rankings this season.

Bergler followed with another strong outing on Sunday against No. 30 Texas Tech. Facing Hailey Murphy at the No. 1  singles position, Bergler battled through a competitive opening set before pulling away for a 7-5, 6-3 straight-set win, giving the Knights the momentum to clinch their first-ever victory over the Red Raiders.

LOOKING AHEAD
The squad will hit the road for a Friday evening match against Iowa State on March 20, before turning its attention to the No. 48 Kansas Jayhawks on Sunday at 1 PM EST.
