ORLANDO - In a highly anticipated rematch of last season’s Big 12 Championship match, 20th-ranked UCF women ’s tennis flipped the script after dropping the doubles points, dominating singles to best No. 30 Texas Tech 0-0 at the USTA National Campus on Sunday afternoon.

UCF’s perfect weekend saw another brilliant performance in singles, as the Black and Gold halted any momentum from the visitors, taking five first sets. The win marks the Knights’ third in a row and completes the perfect homestand, along with maintaining their position in the leading pack of the Big 12 at 5-1.

The Knights set the tone in doubles with a dominant display on court three, as Vladislava Andreevskaya and Jade Psonka broke the Red Raider tandem of Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova swiftly before taking the contest 6-2.

However, Texas Tech responded courtesy of its 55th-ranked duo of Hailey Murphy and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, who topped Jante Tilbuerger and Marina Gatell 6-2 to level the bout. While the Knights hung in on court two, 80th-ranked Lauren Seye and Olivia Bergler fell 6-3 as the Red Raiders secured the early advantage.

In the blistering hot conditions at USTA, the hosts showed their physicality early on in singles, rebounding from a dropped doubles point with five first sets within an hour.

The leveler came from Psonka on court six, who secured her eighth win of the campaign in blistering fashion, taking her bout against Brownback in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The triumph proved to be the first of four dominoes to fall within 10 minutes, as Andreevskaya prevailed in a second-set tiebreak against Sleptsova, 6-2, 7-6(5), to give UCF the advantage.

On the backs of a dominant win over the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, Colorado’s Aya El Sayed, Bergler put an exclamation point on her weekend with another convincing straight-set win on court one over Murphy, 7-5, 6-3.

The clincher came moments later on court three, as Gatell battled back after falling down 4-2 in the second set to defeat Hlahola, 6-4, 6-4, and stay a perfect 7-0 on the season.

While the Knights claimed the win, Seye was amidst a third-set bout on court five and Tilbuerger was level at four-all in the second after dropping a first-set tiebreaker.
