ORLANDO – After a major road upset over then-No. 12 Arizona State this past weekend, the UCF women’s tennis team has jumped to No. 20 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The ranking marks the highest the Knights have climbed this season as they enter the week with a 10-2 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play.

The Knights split their weekend trip out west, falling to then-No. 73 Arizona in a tightly contested 4-3 battle, before storming back in Tempe to upset the then-No. 12 Sun Devils in yet another hard-earned 4-3 result.

The Wildcats got an early lead on the Knights in their Friday matchup, securing the doubles point with swift victories on courts one and two. Although the Knights bounced back in singles play, locking down three courts, the doubles win proved to be the difference as the Wildcats held on for a 4-3 win over the Knights.

Sunday, however, the Knights took immediate control at Arizona State, with Jade Psonka and Vladislava Andreevskaya securing doubles court three, 7-5. It was the No. 80 tandem of Olivia Bergler and Lauren Seye who delivered the decisive point, though. After falling into an early 4-0 hole, the pair mounted an impressive comeback, storming back to take seven of the next eight games. Their 7-5 victory sealed the doubles point and gave the Knights the edge heading into singles.

Despite the Sun Devils gaining the upper hand in singles, winning courts one, three, and five to take a 3-1 lead, the Knights responded down the stretch. Psonka and Andreevskaya each battled to three-set victories on their respective courts to even the match at 3–3.

With the match on the line, all eyes shifted to court two, where Jantje Tilbuerger had just entered a decisive third set against ASU’s Sara Svetac. The senior captain delivered under pressure, taking control down the stretch and closing out the set 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to clinch the Knights’ upset over the No. 12 Sun Devils.

Tilbuerger has now delivered the deciding point in all three of the Knights’ Big 12 wins this season. She remains unbeaten on court two at 7-0 and owns an impressive 10-1 record overall in dual matches.

LOOKING AHEAD
The squad returns to action this weekend with a pair of home matches. They will face No. 51 Colorado on Friday, March 13, at 6 p.m., before taking on No. 30 Texas Tech on Sunday, March 15, at noon.
