ORLANDO – The No. 10 men’s tennis team closed out non-conference play in style as they swept the South Alabama Jaguars 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon the USTA National Campus.

The Knights now sit at a perfect 10-0 at home this season and move to 14-2 on the season while the South Alabama Jaguars shift to 4-7. UCF only dropped two matches for the entire non-conference slate coming from ITA Indoor competition in Waco last month.

The afternoon began with a dominant showing in doubles in which the clinch was seconds away from being won on either of the front two courts before the Black and Gold moved to singles play with six consecutive wins.

In doubles play, the tandem of Luca Hotze and Nicolas Oliveira quickly got to work, sealing court three with a score of 6-3.

On the front two courts, it was anyone’s clinch as the two remaining duos of Yassine Dlimi and Paul Colin on one and Mehdi Benchakroun and Wissam Abderrahman on two were exchanging blows before each being a point away from securing the advantage. It was inevitably Benchakroun and Abderrahman that would secure the doubles point, 6-4.

Oliveira got singles started swiftly handing his South Alabama foe a 6-0, 6-3 defeat on court five. One court over, Clement Lemire was next to handle business on six as he came out victorious, 6-2, 6-1.

Colin added another clinch to his name, bringing the team score to 4-0 while on four, defeating the Jaguar opponent, 6-1, 6-4.

The Knights played out the rest of the courts as No. 74 Abderrahman was the next to finish on court two, securing a 6-2, 6-3 result.

With a doubles win on the day already, history was on the line one court over as Benchakroun solidified a win on three, 6-0, 7-5, bringing the captain to an outstanding accomplishment of 100 collegiate wins over singles and doubles. All 100 of Benchakroun’s wins have come from the past four years donning the Black and Gold.

With a clean sweep in sight, No. 83 Dlimi delivered in dramatic fashion on court one, finishing in a three-set thriller at 6-3 (3-7), 7-5, 10-4.
