LUBBOCK, Texas – The UCF track and field team closed out its indoor season in impressive fashion this weekend, as seven Knights brought home medals in the program’s third appearance at the Big 12 Championships.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- The distance squad capped a long season of growth in fitting fashion, placing eighth in the distance medley relay to earn the program’s first-ever Big 12 medal in a distance event. The combined efforts of Lexi Raquet, Genelle Stephens, Raquel Edwards, and Kendall Hughes earned an 11:31.86 mark, good for second in program record books.
- Omaria Gordon highlighted a strong field performance for the Knights, placing 10th in the long jump with a career-best mark of 6.22 meters.
- Paige Laffoon added another personal-best effort for the field group, scoring 3,712 points in the pentathlon to finish 17th.
- Jazmen Newberry was the star of the sprints squad, clocking a personal-best 53.04 seconds in the 400 meters to qualify for the finals before lowering her time to 52.53 seconds in the championship to earn a bronze medal for the Knights.
- Janiah Pulliam impressed in the 200 meters, placing sixth in the preliminary round to advance to the championship final, where she clocked 23.29 seconds to finish sixth overall.
- The Knights closed out the competition on a high note, finishing fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:32.85, as Janiah Pulliam, Stephens, Jazmen Newberry, and Twainese Johnson combined to secure one final medal for the Knights.
