Fulks Earns Second Big 12 Starting Five Honors

by Aiden Kocol

ORLANDO – For the second time this season, UCF’s Themus Fulks has been named to the Big 12 Starting Five, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The honor comes after Fulks led the Knights to their second ranked victory of the year.

Fulks is joined on the list by Arizona’s Brayden Burries, BYU’s Richie Saunders, Iowa State’s Tamin Lipsey, and Kansas’s Bryson Tiller

The Winston-Salem native paced the Knights in their 88-80 victory over then-No.11 Texas Tech this past weekend, pouring in a team-high 21 points and dishing out seven assists. Earlier in the week, he also served as the core of the squad’s offense against Arizona State, contributing yet another six assists and double-digit scoring mark with 12 points.

Second in the Big 12 and fourth nationally with 7.2 assists per game (151 assists), Fulks has been instrumental in UCF’s historic season. The victory over Texas Tech improved the Knights to 17-4 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 play, with the 17 wins marking the most through January in program history. The win also extended UCF’s conference winning streak to three games, another program first since joining the Big 12 ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Additionally, Fulks has made history of his own in recent games, becoming the first player in program history to post five double-digit assist games in a single season. He is also the first Knight this century to record three point-assist double-doubles in a single season and the first UCF player ever to tally back-to-back games with at least 10 assists.

His command of the offense has been undeniable, as his assists have directly contributed to 362 points while he has scored 298 himself. In total, Fulks has accounted for 660 of UCF’s 1,768 points this season, meaning he has been responsible for an impressive 37.1 percent of the Knights’ total scoring production.

Fulks and the rest of the squad will be back in action this Wednesday, Feb. 4, to take on the Houston Cougars inside the Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas, as they look to snap a ten-game losing streak against the Cougs, having last beat them on March 2, 2019, at Houston in 69-64 victory. The game will be broadcast live on FS1 or you can follow along on 96.9 The Game using the link here.
