ORLANDO – A trio of UCF pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout while the offense continued to produce on opening weekend en route to powering past Siena 15-0 on Sunday afternoon at John Euliano Park.
The Knights (3-0) recorded the three-game sweep in the season-opening series by outscoring the Saints (0-3) an impressive 44-1 over the three games. The 44 runs are the most scored by the Black and Gold in a three-game series since Feb. 18-20, 2022, when they combined to outscore the same Siena squad 46-2.
Junior Camden Wicker started on the mound and allowed just one hit while striking out four and walking four over 5.0 innings of work. Newcomers Evan Jones and Chandler Dorsey combined to allow just one hit while striking out a pair of batters apiece over the final two innings. The trio of right-handers combined to allow just six baserunners to reach on the day.
Offensively, redshirt freshman infielder Austin Jacobs led the way by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a career-best four runs batted in. Zak Skinner continued to have a stellar opening weekend by putting up a 2-for-3 performance with a double, a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs, while DeAmez Ross and Andrew Williamson also drove in two runs apiece. In all, a total of eight different Knights recorded RBIs in the contest.
“Outside of one inning from Wicker, the strike throwing, and the attacking of hitters looked good. Defensively, we also had a solid performance battling some tough winds out there,” head UCF coach Rich Wallace said. “Some of these things throughout the weekend will travel with us and help us moving forward.”
After Wicker retired the side in order in the top of the first, the Knight bats came alive in the bottom of the inning on their way to putting up seven runs in the opening frame for the second consecutive game. Williamson drove in the first run of the game via a sacrifice fly and Skinner followed with an RBI double. Landon Moran then plated a run with an RBI double and Jacobs followed by working a bases-loaded walk to bring home another. After Braden Calise scored on a wild pitch, Ross capped the big inning with a two-run double to left to make it 7-0 after one.
Skinner then belted out his first home run in a UCF uniform in the second inning with a 418-foot bomb to right-center to make it 8-0. Jacobs then drove in his second run of the game in the third inning with an RBI single to left field.

With Wicker having retired nine of the last 11 batters he’d faced, Javier Crespo delivered a pinch-hit home run to straight away centerfield on the first pitch he saw in the last of the fifth to make it 15-0.

Jones then came on and pitched around a leadoff hit in the sixth and Dorsey mowed down the Saints in order in the seventh to seal the victory via the run-rule for the third straight game on the weekend.
“It was a great team win today,” Wicker said. “It felt good and the team performed well in all facets. The offense was great and so was the defense behind me. You can’t ask for much more.”
As a team, UCF posted a .398 batting average for the series with 33 hits and 44 runs scored. The Lamar transfer Skinner led the way by batting .625 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, five runs scored and seven RBIs. The freshman Lodise was right behind him with a .556 clip and five runs batted in, while Landon Moran batted .400 with a team-best eight runs driven in.
As a pitching staff, the Knights posted an impressive 0.43 ERA over the three games. Seven different pitchers also combined for a 0.71 WHIP for the series.
Sunday’s contest mark UCF’s first of five scheduled Space games on the year.
The Black and Gold will next hit the road to open a tough road stretch with a midweek game at No. 21 Miami on Tuesday. The in-state matchup is set for 6 p.m. in Coral Gables and will air live on ACC Network Extra. Next weekend the Knights will head to Jacksonville to take part in the Live Like Lou Jax Classic. There, UCF will face Notre Dame Friday, Indiana Saturday, and No. 1 LSU Sunday.
