ORLANDO – The men’s tennis team competed on home courts at USTA for the first time this season as they welcomed three programs from across The Sunshine State to participate in the UCF Invitational.
Day One - Thursday
Competition began with doubles as UCF swept its competition from Stetson. The tandem of Luca Hotze and Nicolas Oliveira recorded a finish of 6-4 against Alexandre Verlaguet and Kartik Mandla as Paul Colin and Wissam Abderrahman defeated Santiago Padilla Cote and Mihnea Maftei, 6-2. The last doubles matchup of the first day of play, Clement Lemire joined forces with Kai Luca Ampaw as they took down Marc Saura and Mateya Stanisavljevic with a stellar 6-0 result.
Moving to singles, the Knights recorded five wins on the day. Colin (6-3, 7-5), Oliveira (6-3, 6-3), Lemire (7-5, 6-3) and Abderrahman (6-0, 6-3) each defeated their opponents in straight sets, while Hotze bested his competition in an impressive tiebreak fashion, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
