Men's Tennis Impresses at UCF Invitational

ORLANDO – The men’s tennis team competed on home courts at USTA for the first time this season as they welcomed three programs from across The Sunshine State to participate in the UCF Invitational.

Day One - Thursday

Competition began with doubles as UCF swept its competition from Stetson. The tandem of Luca Hotze and Nicolas Oliveira recorded a finish of 6-4 against Alexandre Verlaguet and Kartik Mandla as Paul Colin and Wissam Abderrahman defeated Santiago Padilla Cote and Mihnea Maftei, 6-2. The last doubles matchup of the first day of play, Clement Lemire joined forces with Kai Luca Ampaw as they took down Marc Saura and Mateya Stanisavljevic with a stellar 6-0 result.

Moving to singles, the Knights recorded five wins on the day. Colin (6-3, 7-5), Oliveira (6-3, 6-3), Lemire (7-5, 6-3) and Abderrahman (6-0, 6-3) each defeated their opponents in straight sets, while Hotze bested his competition in an impressive tiebreak fashion, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

Day Two – Friday

The Knights commenced play at 8:30 a.m. competing against individuals from Florida Atlantic to begin the day. Like the day prior, each tandem of the Black and Gold secured a victory in doubles. Both finishing with a score of 6-3, Abderrahman and Hotze defeated the tandem of Pazdera and Havlicek. while Colin and Oliviera bested the duo of Hodvic and Pignaton. The Black and Gold continued to see dominant results as four Knights came out victorious in singles play in Abderrahman, Oliveira, Lemire and Colin.

In the afternoon, the Black and Gold once again started strong as they recorded two doubles wins over opponents from USF. Colin and Oliveira claimed a 6-2 victory over Max Mroz and Ettore Danesi, while Hotze and Abderrahman notched another win of 7-5 over Hugo Car and James Newton.

The invitation concluded with singles play as every Knight on the courts closed out the competition with a win. The final day of singles was highlighted by a dominant win on court one by Abderrahman as he defeated No. 32 Hugo Car, 7-6, 6-3.

Saturday’s action was cancelled due to inclement weather.
