Volleyball Welcomes Arizona for Alumni and 50th Anniversary Celebration

by Alex Clough

ORLANDO - The Knights are set to conclude their three-match homestand Friday night with an anticipated contest with Arizona. Prior to the match, the Black and Gold will welcome alumni back to The Venue, honoring them for building the program into what it is today, 50 years after its inaugural season.

About Arizona (9-6, 3-2)

The Wildcats are fresh off an upset over No. 16 Baylor at home, sweeping the Bears in a dominating display. Sitting at 3-2 in conference play, Arizona, similar to the Knights, has had a tough schedule to open Big 12 competition, falling in contests to Colorado and Kansas, while taking matchups over Kansas State and Utah. The squad boats one of the better attacks in the league, sitting fourth with 13.71 kills per set and second in attacks per set (35.44). Jordan Wilson leads the offense with her 4.29 kills per set, which ranked fourth in the Big 12, while setter Avery Scoggins ranked second in the conference with 10.40 assists per set.

50th Celebration at The Venue
The Knights will conclude their three-match homestand with an anticipated bout against Arizona, who sit almost level with UCF in RPI. While the two flying offenses will meet on the court, the Black and Gold will also be welcoming back alumni as the program celebrated an incredible 50 years of existence. With the first serve set for 6 p.m., the Knights will look to build on a dominant sweep over West Virginia on Sunday, putting them back in the win column and in a strong position ahead of a crucial stretch of play in the Big 12. At home in 2025, the Knights are 7-3 and have produced 14.18 kills per set and a .279 hitting percentage.

Orlando Sweepin’
Looking to bounce back after a difficult three-match losing streak, which included down-to-the-wire results against the Big 12’s best, the Black and Gold took care of business against West Virginia in a well-rounded display. The Knights tallied their most aces in a three-set match, landing 10 against the Mountaineers. Freshman Sarah Mendoza led the charge with four aces, matching her career high. Armour paced the Knights in kills once again, notching 17 kills to continue her blazing start to Big 12 play. The junior has tallied 99 kills in six conference matches, with an eye-catching 78 across her last four. The Knights hit .341 with 41 kills, securing their fourth-best hitting percentage of the season and second-highest in Big 12 play.

Armour Up
After another stellar season in 2024, which saw her lead the Knights in kills (277) and points (324.5), Armour was tabbed to the Big 12 Volleyball Preseason Team (one of 18 athletes), voted upon by the league’s head coaches... through 18 matches, the Colorado native has backed up the expectations with team-leading efforts on offense.... In front of her family, Armour secured a career-high 30 kills against the Buffaloes in Boulder, the most by a Knight since McKenna Melville did so against Georgia on Sept. 11, 2021, while becoming just the 18th in program history to record 30 or more kills in a single match... The junior tallied a combined 43 kills across the two matches at Colorado and Iowa State, the most in a two-match stretch in her career... Armour has secured 10 or more kills in a match more times than she hasn’t since making her collegiate debut in 2023, with 43 10-plus-kill outings in 67 career matches... Armour ranks sixth in the Big 12 with 4.16 kills per set, while ranking sixth in points per set with 4.67 to her name, each leads the Knights and ranks among the top-100 in the nation.
