GAINSEVILLE, Fla. – The UCF men’s tennis team wrapped up competition at the ITA Southeast Regionals this past weekend, with sophomore Clement Lemire leading the Knights’ charge and reaching the quarterfinals in a hard-fought three-set battle.

The multi-day event began with Luca Hotze earning his spot in the main draw after a gritty 7-6, 6-3 win over Georgia’s Cooper Johnson. In the next round, Hotze fell to FAU’s Segundo Goity Zapico, 6-1, 6-3.

Making his collegiate debut, Pedro Rodrigues impressed early with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victory over USF’s Timeo Gaillard. His win was followed by another strong performance from Nicolas Oliveira, who cruised past Georgia State’s Gabriele Datei, 6-3, 6-0, to advance to the round of 32.

Lemire capped off singles play on day one with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win over FGCU’s Hugo Magnusson, continuing the Knights’ momentum.

In doubles action, the pairing of Wissam Abderrahman and Paul Colin secured UCF’s lone doubles win of the day, defeating USF’s Elijah Cham and Guglielmo Verdese, 8-2.

Day two saw Oliveira, Rodrigues, and Lemire all competing in the round of 32. Oliveira dropped his match, while Rodrigues earned a solid 6-4, 6-2 win over Georgia’s Noah Johnston, one of the top freshmen in the region. Lemire followed with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Elias Shokry of Georgia Tech, sending both Knights into the round of 16.

Rodrigues’ run ended in a tight three-set match against Florida State’s Luis Felipe Miguel, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. Lemire, however, continued his strong form, defeating Georgia Tech’s Hidde Schoenmakers in another three-set battle, 6-4 1-6, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals.

Lemire’s impressive tournament concluded in the quarterfinals, where he fell in a closely contested match to No. 32 Hugo Car, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.

The Knights will have another opportunity to clinch a spot in the NCAA Individual Championship as they compete in the ITA South Sectionals in Athens, Georgia from November 6-10.
