ORLANDO - On the backs of a career weekend in Alabama, senior Reaghan Thompson was named the Big 12 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the first weekly award by a Knight in the conference.
Announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon, Thompson garnered the honor after a pair of brilliant performances at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa this past weekend.
The Texas native tallied a season-high 12 blocks in a four-set win over Memphis on Friday, the most by a Knight in a single match since Nerissa Moravec's 14 blocks at Houston on Nov. 26, 2021. Moreover, the total propelled Thompson past 400 career blocks, becoming one of 11 active players in the DI with 400-plus to their name.
While her defensive efforts continue to lead a strong front row, her offensive attributes complement her blocking ability as well as any player in the country. As of this afternoon, Thompson is the only active NCAA DI player who has 800-plus kills and 400-plus blocks in her career.
