ORLANDO - With the calendar turned over to August, excitement continues to build for UCF’s first campaign under the direction of head coach Matt Botsford. This afternoon, fans will have their first chance to hear from the first-year coach in Black and Gold, alongside returning assists-leader and redshirt junior Abby Schomers.
The inaugural Big 12 Volleyball Media Days commenced yesterday with the first half of the conference taking the mic remotely from each school. Botsford and Schomers will speak live on ESPN+ at 2:55 p.m. ET, fielding questions from host Kristen Kozlowski and analysts Alex Jean Glover and Amy Grant.
One of the nation’s premier conferences for volleyball, the Big 12 recently announced its preseason poll and team. Returning kills-leader Avah Armour secured a nod as one of 18 players named to the squad.
Schomers is the longest-tenured Knight on the 2025 roster, having arrived in 2022 as a freshman. Over the past two seasons, she has tallied a combined 2,026 assists, becoming the ninth athlete in program history to secure a 1,000+ assist season in 2023 (1,073)
Botsford will be one of three first-year head coaches in the conference, joining Cincinnati’s Danijela Tomic and Kansas’ Matt Ulmer. In 11 seasons at FGCU prior to taking the post in Orlando, his squad claimed 11 Atlantic Sun titles and made five trips to the NCAA Tournament.
