Women's Hoops Suffers Road Loss to No. 14 Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The UCF women’s basketball team fell to No. 14 Kansas State 97-67 Saturday afternoon in Bramlage Coliseum.

The Knights (9-15, 2-12 Big 12) led with 35 rebounds while the Wildcats (24-3, 12-2) dished out 27 assists and shot an impressive 14-20 (.700) from the three.

Khyala Ngodu started the Knights off with a layup but Kansas State answered with a 10-0 run to take the lead. The Wildcats continued to pile on the points with a 14-0 scoring spurt. The Black and Gold tried to rally back with a 7-0 run to cut K-State’s lead to 13. A last-second three-pointer from Kansas State gave it a 16-point lead following the end of the first quarter, 32-16.

The two teams remained scoreless for the first two and a half minutes until Nevaeh Brown knocked down a shot from beyond the arc. UCF got some stops and held the Wildcats scoreless until 6:11. K-State went on a late 7-0 push as they headed into halftime with the lead, 50-29.

Kansas State continued to put the pressure on scoring 31 points to the Knights’ 15 to record a 37-point advantage going into the fourth quarter, 81-44. The Wildcats recorded a perfect 6-6 from beyond the arc.

UCF outscored Kansas State in the fourth quarter, 23-16, but it wasn’t enough to cut into the Wildcats’ lead. K-State came away with the victory, 97-67.

A trio of Knights recorded double digits in points with Kaitlin Peterson leading the pack, scoring 19 points. Achol Akot and Brown each tacked on 12 points apiece.  Akot’s 12 points came from going 5-6 from the field and 2-2 at the free throw line. Mahogany Chandler-Roberts tallied a game-high nine rebounds and Ngodu chipped in eight rebounds. 

The Knights will stay in The Sunflower State, heading to Lawrence to take on Kansas Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
