GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The UCF men’s golf team finished strong at the Gator Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, as the Knights were 10-over-par in the final round to jump four spots and conclude the tournament in eighth place. UCF recorded a team score of 861 (+21) to finish one stroke ahead of North Florida.
The host and 13th-ranked Florida Gators won the event at -17, while No. 7 Oklahoma State was one stroke behind in second place (-16).
UCF ended ahead of Big 12 Conference foe West Virginia, as the Mountaineers were 12th at 30-over-par.
Chase Haygood and Jakob Stavang Stubhaug led the Knights in the invitational, as each player was three-over-par with a 213 to tie for 21st on the player leaderboard. Stubhaug had his best round of the weekend on Sunday, firing a 69 (-1) with three birdies. He dropped in a birdie on hole No. 17 and 18 after starting the day on hole 13 and then recorded another birdie on No. 2.
Haygood shot a 71 (+1) in the third round, including an eagle on hole No. 12. The Daytona Beach, Florida, native was one of just 13 players in the field with an eagle. Haygood tallied consecutive birdies on holes 18 and 1, then later dropped in a birdie on No. 7.
Gustav Andersson fired a 215 (+5) to tie for 32nd, closing out his showing with a 76 on Sunday. He tallied a birdie on hole No. 12. Hans Risvaer carded a 74 in the final round with birdies on 11 and 17 to finish tied for 55th with a three-round score of 220 (+10).
Lucas Dutartre rounded out the lineup for the Black and Gold with a 225 (+15) thanks to a 77 in the third round Sunday.
The UCF men’s golf team will return to action at the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate on Monday, March 3-4 at the LPGA International Golf Course.
