Volleyball Adds Three Signees to 2025 class

by Jenna VanHoose

ORLANDO - The UCF women’s volleyball team and head coach Matt Botsford announced the addition of three Florida recruits to their 2025 class, signing Nygeria Hart, Mikayla Porter, and Alexa Haley.

As we begin the journey of reimagining what UCF volleyball can be, our focus is on finding and attracting those that we feel can contribute to our long-term vision. These three young women represent exactly what we are looking for and I am so excited to have them as a part of our program moving forward. This is a talented group and one that will be an integral in elevating UCF volleyball on the national stage. Each of these young women understand what we are trying to accomplish here and possess the ability to contribute directly to those ambitions. Our staff is excited to work with them, compete with them, and help them reach their goals as they transition to the next level.

nygeria

Hart, a 5’11” outside hitter from Port Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte, Fla. A three-time MVP, Hart put down 1000 kills in her high school career. Additionally, Hart was noted as both a Sun Prep All-Area and AVCA All-Region honors runner up. Hart chose to continue her academic and volleyball career with the Knights because of the amazing community and academic opportunities.

Nygeria is an explosive pin hitter that I believe will develop into a high-level point scorer at the next level. The growth we have seen from her in just the past year highlights what I think will be a common theme throughout her collegiate career. Her contact point, velocity, and versatility make her a threat across the entirety of the net and a tough match-up to prepare for. On top of what she can do up front, Nygeria’s progress in the backrow is equally exciting as it will ultimately allow us to utilize her through all six rotations. She is going to be a lot of fun to work with and our fans are absolutely going to love watching her style of play.

mikayla

Porter, a 6’0 setter from St. Thomas Aquinas in Deerfield Beach, Fla. was named MVP by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association for the 2024 season. Porter helped lead her team to two state championships. She has also received multiple other honors including AVCA High School All American 2nd Team, AVCA High School All Region and All County 7a-6a 1st team. Racking up an impressive 977 career assists, she was honored with the 2024 7a-6a Player of the Year. Porter signed to UCF because it is a program on the rise to success and she’s ready to grow with it. UCF also gave her the opportunity to compete at a higher level and stay close to home.

Mikayla has special talent in the setting position and she plays the game with a joy and passion that is infectious. She is a competitor that understands how to make an impact out on the floor and how to position her teammates for success. Creativity is an important part of what we look for in setters and Mikayla is a prime example of what that looks like. Beyond the technical skills, of which she has already built an excellent foundation, her ability to create is what really sets her apart. She has the strength to push the ball to every location on the court from just about every position she finds herself in which is another huge benefit.

Haley, a 5’4” libero from Seacrest Country Day School in Naples, Fla. was a standout athlete on and off the court. She was a part of the National Honors Society while also becoming a four-time state champion. Honored as 1A player of the year, she has tallied over 2,000 career digs. In addition, she was named to the All-Tournament team at the Tournament of Champions and as 16s club MVP. Haley is excited to follow in her family footsteps and continue her academics at UCF. She also looks forward to the opportunity to compete and grow joining the Knight’s large program.

I have had the pleasure of working with Alexa since she was in eight grade and attending our summer camps in Southwest Florida. What she was doing at that age was remarkable and it was clear early on that she was going to be elite. Here we are five years later and she is now one of the best and most accomplished high school liberos in the nation. Her ability to influence what happens out on the court from her position is incredible to watch and just highlights how special she is. Lexi is talented, works hard, competes hard, and is an unbelievable teammate. Those are the characteristics we celebrate here and she is going to fit in perfectly.
