Volleyball Signs Three to 2025 Roster

by Jenna VanHoose

ORLANDO- The UCF volleyball team clinched three to the 2025 recruiting class, signing Addyson Cook, Reese Moore, and Sarah Mendoza.

Every year we search the country (and beyond) to find high caliber student-athletes who have the drive to excel, push beyond their limits and ultimately win. If I had one word to describe all three of our incoming freshmen, it would be QUALITY. Not only are they going to push the level of play in our gym and help us to compete in one of the top conferences in the nation, but they also extend our mission of recruiting individuals with outstanding character who possess qualities of leadership while also being fantastic teammates. Each of them has served as the “glue” on their respective teams, whether it was being relied upon to get the final kill or for being the consistent one in the weight room that teammates admired, respected and followed. We are excited for their presence to be felt immediately in our gym!

Cook, a 6’1” outside hitter from Mountain Ridge High School in Herriman, Utah. Recognized her sophomore season to the 2nd Team All-Region and her junior season to 1st Team All-Region, she was able to tally 1,000 kills in just three years while also adding on an additional 400 her senior season. Additionally in the 23-24 season, she was noted as a MaxPreps Player of the Week and named to 3rd Team All-State. She played for Club Great Salt Lake also known as Club GSL. Cook signed with the Knights for its outstanding coaching staff, the strong camaraderie among the players and the overall culture of the program.

What Coach Maurer says about Cook: We had our eyes on Addy well before we offered her. As a multi-sport athlete, she moved and jumped at an exceptional level, but her volleyball skill took huge leaps, both offensively and defensively, this past club season when several top programs took notice. Addy is a 6-rotation scorer who wants to touch the ball when the game is on the line. We’re excited she’ll be on our side of the net for the next four years!

Moore, a 5’9” defensive specialist/libero from Franklin High School in Franklin, Tennessee. Recognized as her high school’s high team MVP, she was named 2024 AAU All-American and earned spots on the 2023 District All-Tournament Team, and the 2024 All-District Team. Additionally, she was honored as the TSSA Middle Tennessee Mid-Season Player of the Year in 2023. She played club volleyball for Tennessee Performance Volleyball. Moore chose to play for UCF after attending a camp in 2023, where she fell in love with the program, drawn in by the positive energy of the coaching staff and team.

What Coach Maurer says about Moore: Reese has trained for the last several years under the same umbrella program as current Knight, Emily Wilson. Attention to detail, discipline, and tireless work ethic are just a few of the hallmarks of Tennessee (Sports) Performance, which we immediately noticed in Reese. Having played multiple positions, we believe Reese’s best future will be as a Libero/DS with her knack for ball control and ability to read attackers.

Mendoza

Mendoza, a 5’7” libero from Colleyville Heritage High School in Bedford, Texas. She has earned numerous honors including being twice named to the All-District Team, All-State 5A, and her high school’s Defensive Player of the Year. She is also a three-time Academic All-District honoree and was recognized by The Dallas Morning News and DFW All-Area Teams. A standout player in several tournaments, she has been adorned with titles such as Northwest ISD Defensive Player of the Tournament and Mansfield ISD Invitational All-Tournament Team. Additionally, she is a two-time GJNC medalist. With an impressive 1,400 digs, Mendoza was noted as a top 50 overall player in Texas and ranked as the state’s fourth overall libero. She played club for Texas Advantage Volleyball.  Mendoza selected UCF volleyball because of the program's commitment to excellence and strong work ethic. On top of that, she admired the coaches’ dedication to building players both on and off the court.

What Coach Maurer says about Mendoza: With the upcoming graduation of two Libero/DS’s, both of whom started and played regularly throughout their career, reloading our Defense position was going to be critical this recruiting cycle. Sarah comes highly decorated having received both in-state and national recognition while being trained by prestigious programs at the high school and club level. Sarah frustrates opposing attackers with her range – her feisty competitiveness will lead to some great battles.
