ORLANDO – The UCF volleyball team fell 3-0 to Cincinnati Wednesday night at The Venue.
The Knights (8-10, 1-8 Big 12) recorded 40 kills and 38 digs, while Cincinnati (12-8, 3-6) notched 39 kills and 43 digs, hitting at a .274 clip.
Avah Armour had an impressive match, leading UCF with 13 kills and hitting .316. Heidi Bonde added eight kills on a .467 hitting percentage, and Abby Schomers directed the offense with 22 assists. Chloe Scheer tallied 14 digs, marking her 17th double-digit dig match of the season, while freshman Cam Shelton recorded her first two aces of her collegiate career.
Scheer led the match off with an ace to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Cincinnati knotted the set up, 6-6, and held onto the lead for the remainder of the set. The Bearcats earned the set win 25-18 following back-to-back blocks.
Cincinnati maintained momentum throughout the second set, starting with a 3-0 lead. The Knights chipped away at the Bearcats’ lead as Katelyn Grimes served up an ace to edge the Black and Gold within one point, 23-22. Cincinnati never relinquished its lead to take the second set, 25-23.
Back-to-back UCF kills and a service ace got the Knights out to an early 3-1 lead. Cincinnati fought back to tie the set up at nine. Both teams continued to battle it out although following a 13-13 deadlock, the Bearcats took the lead with a kill and never looked back taking the set 25-20.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, November 2 with a matchup in Lubbock, Texas, against Texas Tech at 2 p.m.
