HARRIS, Mich. - The old saying is that what you do in the offseason will show up during the season. Well, UCF men’s golfer Chase Haygood had an incredible offseason, as the junior recorded a career-best 208 (-8) in his first action of the 2024-25 season to win the individual title at the Island Resort Intercollegiate Monday afternoon at the Sage Run Golf Club.

After tallying two rounds under par on Sunday, Haygood put the finishing on his first collegiate victory with another incredible round. He opened the day on fire, recording a four under on the back nine before making the turn to the front nine. Haygood dropped in seven birdie putts on the day to end with a 69 (-3).

The Daytona Beach, Florida, native shot a four-under-par 68 in the opening round and a 71 (-1) in the second round to compile his score of 208 to tie VCU’s Braden O’Grady for the individual crown. O’Grady shot a 68, 73 and a 67.

Haygood was the only player in the field to shoot a score under par all three rounds, competing as an individual.

As a team, UCF finished seventh with an 875 (+11), jumping two spots from the conclusion of day one. The Knights put together their best round of the weekend with an 11-under-par 277 to close out their opening tournament on a positive note.

Transfers Felix Schrott and Lucas Dutarte led the Knights in the final round Monday with scores of 66 (-6) and 67 (-5), respectively. Schrott had it going in the third round, dropping in six birdies in a bogey free round. Dutartre also had six birdies and finished with a 211 (-5) to tie for fourth on the player leaderboard.

Sophomore Hans Risvaer had his best round of the weekend Monday with five birdies to tally a 71 (-1) and Jakob Stavang Stubhaug was one over with a 73. Freshman Palmer Haynes shot an 82 to round out the lineup for the Knights.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Marc Keller had one of his best outings in the Black and Gold with a 222 (+6) to finish 38th on the player leaderboard. Newcomer Clemente Silva also participated in the event, finishing with a 232 (+16).

The Black and Gold are back in action in two weeks at the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Cincinnati. The event will take place Sept. 16-17 at the Coldstream Country Club.
