Wells Named to Allstate Wuerffel Trophy & AFCA Good Works Team Watch List

UCF football senior William Wells has been named to the watch list of the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team, the organization announced Wednesday. Known as college football’s premier award for community service, Wells has been at the forefront of UCF’s community service efforts, logging more than 39 hours.

The West Palm Beach, Florida, native appeared in 10 games last season for the Knights, missing a few games due to injury. Wells ended the year with 14 tackles, two quarterback hurries and a crucial forced fumble in UCF’s first Big 12 Conference win at Cincinnati.

Among Wells’ numerous community service events, he was recently a part of UCF’s visit to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children to help the children design logos for the players to wear on their helmets during the spring football game.

The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is presented annually to the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership and performance on and off the field. Named after Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Famer Danny Wuerffel, the award honors the former NFL quarterback’s commitment to inspiring greater service and unity in the world.

The announcement of the 2024 recipient is scheduled to be made on December 12th during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN, and the formal presentation of the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy will take place February 1, 2025 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, GA.

The 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy recipient will be determined by votes from its national selection committee and a Fan Vote among the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members. Established in 2005, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the first Wuerffel Trophy. Throughout this season, the Wuerffel Foundation will reflect on these first nineteen recipients and honor the history of this prestigious award.
