ORLANDO – The UCF women's tennis team broke out the brooms on Thursday afternoon with a huge 4-0 sweep over seventh-seeded Houston in the AAC Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinals. With the win, the Knights advance to the semifinals, where they will face No. 6 seed Memphis on Friday, Apr. 21 at 3 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
The squad brought the energy in doubles, quickly wrapping up action on court two, with Nandini Sharma and Noel Saidenova taking down their opponents 6-2, giving the Knights the early edge. Marie Mattel and Sophia Biolay continued to shine on court one, holding serve and earning a break to put them up 6-4, clinching the doubles point for UCF.
Building off the momentum, the Knights took the first sets on all of the courts, never stepping off the gas. Jaleesa Leslie showed incredible power, earning her third-straight win with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 decision on court five.
Sharma continued to do what she does, dominating with a straight-set victory. The 6-2, 6-2 result at court four put the Knights within one of advancing to the semifinals.
Anique Kattenberg was the shining star of the match, clinching at the sixth position with a 6-3, 6-2 victory to notch her team-leading fourth-straight win.
