ORLANDO – The UCF men's golf team is set for its final regular-season tournament before the American Athletic Conference Championship next month, as the Knights are competing in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational this weekend held at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
This year's event features 54 holes of stroke play at the par-72, 7,086-yard course. Forest Hills is a classic Donald Ross design that has delighted golfers since 1926. It has won numerous accolades over the years, including being consistently voted "Best Public Golf Course" by Augusta Magazine, and is the place to play while in Augusta for The Masters Championship. Home to the Augusta University's Jaguar golf team, Forest Hills is located just a few miles from Augusta National Golf Club.
Tournament play opens on Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., as the teams will play 36 holes before returning to the course Sunday morning to play the final 18 holes.
The 15-team field includes No. 6 Illinois, No. 9 Texas, No. 12 Florida, No. 18 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Georgia Southern, No. 22 Virginia, Augusta (host), Air Force, Charleston, East Tennessee State, Kennesaw State, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Virginia Tech in addition to UCF.
The Knights' lineup features Johnny Travale, Luis Carrera, Markus Braadlie, Egor Eroshenko and Chase Haygood.
Last year, UCF finished eighth at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational with an 873 (+9), headlined by Teddy Tetak with a three-round score of 214 (-2).
This year's event marks the 43rd edition of the invitational.
2023 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational Qualifying Information
- Johnny Travale has earned an exemption into the 2023 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational after finishing tied for seventh in the 2023 Schenkel Invitational and has also met the qualifying criteria by finishing first in the four-round qualifier.
- Luis Carrera has qualified for the 2023 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational by virtue of finishing second in the four-round qualifier with a score of three over.
- Markus Braadie has received a Coach's pick to compete in the 2023 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.
- Egor Eroshenko has received a Coach's pick to compete in the 2023 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.
- Chase Haygood has received a Coach's pick to compete in the 2023 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.
The qualifying criteria for the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational was the top-three qualifying scores in the four-round qualifier. To earn the exemption in the top three, you must have shot no worse than two over per round for a total of eight over par. Any of the six players who have not met these criteria will rely on a coach's pick to compete in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.
