For the first time since the 2019-20 season, the UCF men's golf team is headed to Las Vegas to compete in the Southern Highlands Collegiate hosted by UNLV. Play is slated to begin Sunday, Feb. 26 and conclude on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Southern Highlands Golf Club.
Action gets underway at noon ET/9 a.m. PT Sunday, as the teams will play 18 holes each day of the tournament.
The par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club has been ranked among the top courses in the country by Golf Digest and has hosted PGA Tour events.
The UCF lineup will consist of Egor Eroshenko, Markus Braadlie, Luis Carrera, Tom Stephens and Chase Haygood.
The individual champion will receive an exemption into the Shriners Children's Open, which will take place Oct. 12-15, 2023, at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.
UCF will battle a talented field of teams that includes nine teams among the latest Golfstat Rankings, including No. 4 North Carolina, No. 7 Illinois, No. 8 Georgia Tech, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 11 Florida, No. 14 Pepperdine, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 16 Texas, No. 25 San Diego State, Georgia, New Mexico, SMU, TCU and host UNLV.
In its last outing, UCF finished sixth in its first tournament of 2023, recording an 874 (+10) team score at the John Hayt Collegiate held at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
The Knights ended one stroke shy of the top five, as the fifth-place team (Coastal Carolina) carded an 873 (+9).
The Knights were in third place after making the turn at three over, but a tough back nine slid the squad to sixth.
2023 Southern Highlands Collegiate Qualifying Information
- Luis Carrera has earned an exemption into the 2023 Southern Highlands Collegiate after finishing tied for 14th in the John Hayt Collegiate and has also met the qualifying criteria by finishing first in the five-round qualifier.
- Egor Eroshenko has earned an exemption into the 2023 Southern Highlands Collegiate by finishing tied for 25th in the 2023 John Hayt Collegiate.
- Tom Stephens has received a Coach's pick to compete in the 2023 Southern Highlands Collegiate.
- Markus Braadlie has received a Coach's pick to compete in the 2023 Southern Highlands Collegiate.
- Chase Haygood has received a Coach's pick to compete in the 2023 Southern Highlands Collegiate.
