Women's Tennis Set to Open 2022-23 at Fall Ranked Spotlight

ORLANDO – Three members of the UCF women's tennis team will begin their fall tournament slate at the 2022 Fall Ranked Spotlight in Cary N.C. The tournament will run from Thursday through Sunday and is hosted by NC State and Cary Tennis Park.
Marie Mattel, Nandini Sharma and Jaleesa Leslie will participate in the singles portion of the tournament while Mattel and Sharma will team up in doubles.

The tournament begins with doubles on Thursday with the first matches getting underway at 5 p.m. Mattel and Sharma, a duo that have played together plenty of times over their UCF tenures, will hit the court at about 5:45 p.m. The Knight duo will face Arizona State's Giulia Morlet and Rachel Hanford. Regardless of the result of the match, the tandem will play one more time later in the evening at 7:15. Doubles will be played in the same fashion as a college match, one set to six with a tiebreaker played at 6-6 if necessary.

No. 90 Mattel headlines the Knights in singles as the only ranked Knight entering the tournament. She'll start her singles journey in the A-1 draw against the No. 3 seeded and ranked Daria Frayman of Princeton. The two will face each other at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Win or lose, Mattel will play again later in the day at 1:30 p.m.

Leslie and Sharma find themselves in the A-2 Draw of the singles bracket, with both starting play at 11 a.m. on Friday. Leslie will face the third-seeded Arizona State's Hanford while Sharma will face Auburn's DJ Bennett. Regardless of result, the two members of the Black and Gold will play again at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday calls for two rounds of singles in the winner's bracket of both draws, setting up for the finals on Sunday at 9 a.m. and noon. One final installment of doubles will also be played on Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
