Volleyball Sweeps Pirates to Win 12th Straight

GREENVILLE, N.C.— The No. 24 UCF volleyball team (24-1, 16-1 AAC) extended its win streak to 12 for the second time this season with a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-20, 25-14) over East Carolina (10-19, 5-12 AAC) on Friday night in Williams Arena.

"East Carolina has always been a tough place to play at, they just have a unique environment at their place," said UCF Head Coach Todd Dagenais. "But we had a pretty good night I thought we were steady. As far as serves we only missed a couple, and we kept our team in system."

McKenna Melville led the Knights off with a kill to start set one. UCF went on a 4-0 run to end the set, 25-18. The Black and Gold recorded a total of 19 kills in the opening set.

Claudia Dillon sparked a 5-0 run to start off set two with a kill. The Knights cruised on through to take set two, 25-20. Amber Olson and Melville ended the set with nine digs each.

The Pirates took the lead for the first time in set three with a service error from the Knights. UCF bounced back with a 3-0 run ignited with a kill from Kari Zumach. The Knights continued to pace their way to a 25-14 win.

Melville led the offense with 22 kills, tallying 14 digs and adding in two aces and blocks, respectively. Abby Hansen recorded 10 kills and two blocks.

Olson led with 40 assists adding in 11 digs.

"McKenna chipping in not only on the offensive side with 22 kills but 14 digs," said Coach Dagenais "Amber Olson had 11 and they made sure that Chloe and Kaitlin really didn't get much of a chance to touch the ball. So, they kept it out of their hands and really tried to put the pressure on with their serve and with their attacking. Kari had one of her best all-around matches tonight hitting with no errors and over 50%. Along with getting three blocks. She just really did a nice job of playing her position and hit things that we worked on all week in practice."

The Knights head to Philadelphia for a matchup against Temple on Sunday, Nov. 20 with first serve slated for 12 p.m.
