ORLANDO – After a wildly successful campaign, the UCF softball team finished in the top 16 in all four major polls. The Knights checked in at No. 14 in final edition of the NFCA's rankings, their highest finish in the poll in program history.
The Black and Gold finished in a tie of 15th in USA Softball's rankings while checking in at No. 13 in D1Softball's final poll and No. 14 in Softball America.
The No. 14 finish in the NFCA poll was one spot shy of tying the program record, set back in week 15 of 2015. The same can be said about the Knights' USA Softball ranking, as UCF finished one spot behind their program best ranking of No. 14 set in week 14 of 2015.
UCF finished the season with a record of 5-9 against opponents ranked in the NFCA poll. They earned wins over No. 12 Georgia, No. 11 Texas, No. 5 Virginia Tech and two victories against No. 24 Michigan in the NCAA Orlando Regional. The Knights have earned 13 wins over ranked opponents during head coach Cindy Ball-Malone's four-year tenure, earning one ranked win in 2019, three in 2020, four in 2021 and another five in 2022.
The Knights earned a spot in the top 25 of the NFCA and USA Softball polls for 11 straight releases, cracking back into the top 25 in the fifth release of the regular season. UCF was either receiving votes or ranked in the top 25 for the entirety of the season in both polls. USA Softball had the Knights ranked 20th or better in nine consecutive rankings.
