ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The UCF women's golf team wrapped up play in the NCAA Ann Arbor regional Wednesday afternoon in Ann Arbor, Michigan, turning in a 909(+57) score to finish in 11th place.
The Knights shot 305(+21) in the final round to close out their last tournament of the 2021-22 season.
"We had a great year overall but just didn't have our best games in post season," said head coach Emily Marron. "There is a lot to build on with the retuning players and the two new players that we will add to the roster next season. We are really excited about our future and continuing to build our program."
No. 5 San Jose State won the regional at 862(+10), while No. 8 Virginia, No. 20 Arkansas and host school Michigan rounded out the top four to advance to the national championship in Scottsdale, Arizona from May 20-26. San Jose State's Natasha Andrea Oon won individual medalist honors with a 207(-6) score, five strokes lower than second place (Virginia Tech's Emily Mahar 212, -1). The pair were the only two golfers to finish under-par on Michigan's par-71, 6,625-yard U-M Golf Course.
As the leading two individuals not on an advancing team, Mahar and Old Dominion's Jana Melichova (213, E) will move on to the national championship as well, where they will play as individuals.
UCF was led by freshman Zoe Allaux in all three rounds. The first-year Knight from Narbonne, France shot 73-72-76=221(+8) to finish in 18th place. Sophomore Jess Baker was close behind, posting scores of 75-76-73=224(+11), tying her for 26th.
Junior Tunrada Piddon was only a stroke off from Baker. The Bangcock, Thailand native and reigning AAC Player of the Year finished tied for 29th after shooting 77(+6) in round three, bringing her three-round total to 225(+12).
Rounding things out for the Knights, senior Alyssa Lamoureux shot 78-82-790=239(+26), while senior Ana Laura Collado, who was substituted back in for Camille Banzet to close out the tournament, shot 7-over 79 in round three to finish at 161(+8).
Overall, it was a historically successful year for Marron's squad. The Knights secured seven top-five finishes on the season and won two tournaments in the Evie Odom Invitational (Oct. 3-5) and the Brickyard Collegiate (April 4-5).
UCF's appearance in the Ann Arbor regional marked its 16th regional appearance and its eighth in the last 11 seasons. Since Marron took over the program ahead of the 2012-13 season, the Knights have either made it as a team or sent an individual to every NCAA regional. Wednesday's selection mark's the third straight time the Knights have made an NCAA regional as a team (excluding the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season).
