Knights Fall in Quarterfinals

TULSA, Okla. – The No. 18 UCF women's tennis team fell short in quarterfinals to South Florida by a 3-4 decision on Thursday, April 21, in the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
UCF had a strong start to clinch the doubles point. Jaleesa Leslie and Noel Saidenova led the way with a 6-2 decision over Laura Pellicer and Selin Yaylali on court three while on court two Nandini Sharma and Sophia Biolay finished with a 6-3 win over Grace Schumacher and Margriet Timmermans to clinch the doubles point.
 
No. 33 Evgeniya Levashova and Marie Mattel were also leading 5-4 over Sierra Berry and Amelia Boy on court one, but the match went unfinished.
 
In singles, Nandini Sharma earned her 12th-straight victory as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Selin Yaylali.
 
Shortly after, No. 101 Marie Mattel extended her win streak to seven after a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Margriet Timmermans as the Knights led 3-0 in the match.
 
But the Bulls grabbed the next four courts as Sophia Biolay fell to Amelia Boy, 4-6, 2-6, and Jaleesa Leslie couldn't hold on, falling to Laura Pellicer by a score of 3-6, 5-7.
 
No. 106 Evgeniya Levashova battled Grace Schumacher, but fell short, 5-7, 4-6 and Noel Saidenova forced a third set to Sierra Berry, but ultimately fell, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6.
 
UP NEXT
The Knights will now wait to see where the postseason will take them.
