Latasha Smith Named AAC Track Athlete of the Week

ORLANDO – A pair of records over the weekend led Latasha Smith to the American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The sophomore made her outdoor 400-meter debut at the Tom Jones Memorial, running 52.01 to set the UCF record in the event. Her time put her in eighth on this season's NCAA outdoor performance list.

Smith then joined teammates Kiah Williams, Danielle Bess and Samieryah Bradwell to close out the meet in record-setting fashion. The quartet set both the UCF and The American 4x400 relay record. The squad finished third in 3:31.88 and moved into 10th on the NCAA outdoor performance list.

The West Palm Beach, Florida, native earned the first conference outdoor weekly honor of her career and her second conference honor of the season after collecting the laurel during the indoor campaign.

Smith is the fourth Knight to be recognized by the conference during the 2022 outdoor season, joining Ciara Holback as the second to earn Track Athlete of the Week honors. Adrienne Adams and Brittany Floyd have been named Field Athlete of the Week.

The Knights are back in action April 22-23, splitting the squad between the Virginia Challenge and the LSU Alumni Gold.
