Knights Finish Third at American Women's Golf Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. – The UCF women's golf team wrapped up play in the 2022 American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship on Tuesday in Pinehurst, North Carolina, falling just short of their third AAC title with a third-place finish after posting a combined 899(+35) score.
 
The Knights led with the field with less than nine holes to go in the final day of play, but they couldn't hold on as they went on to shoot 306(+18) to finish seven strokes off from AAC Tournament champions Tulane (892, +28). UCF's 899(+35) score in the championship was six strokes lower than South Florida, who finish fifth with a 905(+41) score.
 
UCF junior Tunrada Piddon came into Tuesday leading all golfers at 3-under-par, but seven bogeys kept her from holding onto the lead, and she ultimately finished second with a 220(+4) score. A three-time AAC Player of the Week this season, the Bangkok, Thailand native has now posted five top-five finish this season.
 
The Knights, who won the AAC title in 2015 and 2017, entered Tuesday's final round trailing Houston by six strokes. The Cougars fell out of contention with a tough final round while the Green Wave powered their way to the tournament victory with a 295(+7) final round. SMU's Kennedy Pedigo won individual medalists honors with a 219(+3) score.  

Freshman Zoe Allaux led all Knights in the final round with a 1-over-par 73 score, bringing her three-round total to 230(+14), tying her for 21st place with fellow Knight Alyssa Lamoureux, who finished the tournament with a 8-over-par 80 final round.
 
Tied for 12th was UCF sophomore Jess Baker. The Newcastle, England native shot just 2-over par on Tuesday, bringing her three-day total to 225(+9). Rounding things out, sophomore Camille Banzet shot 80(+8) in round three to finish at 231(+15), good for 25th place.
 
NEXT UP­
The Knights will now await word on where they will compete in the NCAA Regional round, which is slated for May 9-11. The selection show will air on Wednesday, April 27 at 4 p.m. ET on the Golf Channel.
