PINEHURST, N.C. – Led by junior Tunrada Piddon and senior Alyssa Lamoureux, the Knights posted a strong start to the American Athletic Conference Championship Sunday in Pinehurst, North Carolina, sitting tied for second place with Memphis at 15-over par.
At the end of day one, the Knights sit just eight strokes shy of first place Houston (7-over-par).
Piddon led the charge for UCF on Sunday, opening even with par (72) in round one and following it up at 1-under par through nine holes in round two. She is tied for first place among individuals.
Lamoureux was also even with par in round one as her and Piddon were just two of five golfers to not shoot over par in the opening round on the notoriously difficult Pinehurst No. 6 golf course. The average score for the first round of the tournament was 77.46 on the par-72, 6,290-yard layout. Lamoureux is currently 2-over nine holes into the second round, placing her tied for fifth halfway through the championship.
Trailing closely behind Piddon and Lamoureux was sophomore Camille Banzet, who opened at 76(+4) and is 2-over through nine holes in round two, while sophomore Jess Baker turned in a 5-over 77 opening round and is 3-over in the second round.
Rounding things out, freshman Zoe Allaux is tied for 34th after opening with a 7-over 79 and sitting at 2-over in round two.
The Knights and the rest of the teams from The American will tee off at 9:00 a.m. Monday morning in hopes to finish out round two before expected inclement weather rolls in. Fans can follow along live on Golfstat.com here.
