Sunday Funday at the Park, UCF Completes the Sweep of Siena

ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF baseball scored in seven of the eight innings they batted in, in route to an 18-0 victory on Sunday afternoon over Siena to complete the sweep. UCF improves to 3-0 on the season, while Siena falls to 0-3. 
 
The Knights began the afternoon where they left off, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Lex Boedicker singled to left center to drive in the first two runs of the game, before Riley Wash doubled down the line in left to score Boedicker and Ben McCabe.
 
In the second, UCF would continue to pile on the runs beginning with Trent Taylor drawing a balk to score the fifth run of the game. Taylor had previously stole second and third, one of two Knights to have two or more stolen bases on the day. UCF would finish the game with nine stolen bases.
 
Tom Josten would continue the hit parade in the second, doubling off the centerfield wall to score a pair. Ben McCabe hit his second home run of the weekend; a three-run shot into the road behind left field.
 
UCF would go on to score a run in the next four innings to extend the lead to 14-0. In the eighth, Ben Rushing drew a bases loaded walk to score Ryan Taylor. Andrew Sundean would collect his first collegiate hit and RBI, singling to right center to score John Montes. Jason Ambos would add a run on a sacrifice fly, while Michael Brooks would single through the left side to score Rushing. 
 
Hunter Patteson got the nod on Sunday, earning the win after five solid innings of work. Patteson would strikeout nine Siena batters and didn't allow a walk. Will Saxton, Ben Vespi, Chase Centala, and Cameron Crain all worked an inning in relief to preserve the shutout and complete the sweep of the Saints.

GAME NOTES

  • Noah Orlando hit his first career home run in the bottom of the sixth, a solo shot to left. 
  • UCF outscored Siena 46-2 this weekend, the best opening weekend scoring margin since 2008 when they defeated FAMU 50-5 over three games. 
  • Andrew Sundean collected his first collegiate hit and RBI on Sunday, singling to right field. 
  • Hunter Patteson earned his first win of the season on Sunday, working 5.0 innings of three hit baseball. He recorded nine strikeouts, one off his career best. 
  • UCF base runners stole nine bases this afternoon.
