Baseball Clinches Sweep in Season Finale

Orlando, Fla. – The UCF baseball team completed their first sweep of the season and got back to .500 with their 2-1 win of Houston on Saturday afternoon.

Both starting pitchers looked extremely sharp. UCF starter Kenny Serwa got some help from his defense in the second inning when Gephry Pena made an amazing diving grab that saved a run.

In the fourth inning, Houston would tack on the first run of the game on fielder's choice.

That would be the only run Serwa would allow as he went seven innings of one run ball, striking out six and allowing five hits.

UCF's offense finally broke through in the fifth inning. After back to back singles from Alex Freeland and Pablo Ruiz, Nick Romano scored Freeland with an RBI double. Noah Orlando then plated Ruiz on a ground out to put the Knights up 2-1.

That would be all the Knights needed as the combination of Serwa, Ben Vespi, and David Litchfield would silence the Houston bats to hold on for their first sweep of the season.
