TAMPA, Fla. – The UCF women's tennis wrapped up day two of the Bedford Cup in Tampa, Fla. on Saturday, October 2, competing in both doubles and singles.
In doubles action, Nandini Sharma and Marie Mattel, playing as the No. 3 seed in the tournament, fell to the No. 1 seed Bente Spee and Emma Shelton in the semifinals by a score of 6-1.
Playing in the north doubles draw as the No. 2 seed, Jaleesa Leslie and Nadja Bay Christians were unable to overcome the duo of Emily De Oliveira and Alicia Dudeney in 6-3.
In singles play, the No. 4 seed Sharma, defeated Yasmine Kabbaj in 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals. She then fell to the No. 2 seed of Alicia Dudeney – 6-4, 6-1.
Also playing in quarterfinals, Leslie fell to Bente Spee in 6-1, 6-0 before falling to Kamila Umarova by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Mattel also fell to No. 2 seed Alicia Dudeney in 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. She came back to fight in a long, hard fought battle against Yasmine Kabbaj. After falling in the first set, 6-4, she came back to take the second in 6-7(3), but Kabbaj grabbed the win in in 6-4, 6-7(3) [10-8].
Anique Kattenberg defeated Adrienne Clayton in a quick decision of 6-1, 6-0. She moved on to play Audelia Morin-Kougocheff in another battle, but ultimately fell in 6-4, 1-6[10-8].
